FRA Mentoring: All you need to know

16th February 2022

As the old saying goes, ‘use it or lose it’. If you haven’t actively applied the skills and knowledge previously learnt in one of our training courses in recent years, and you’re looking to get up to speed on your fire risk assessment knowledge, our FRA mentoring initiative may be of interest to you.

What is FRA mentoring?

Vulcan’s fire risk assessor mentoring initiative is aimed towards delegates that would like to brush up on their fire safety knowledge. If training was completed some time ago, current legislation may have changed, therefore, fire risk assessor mentoring is the ideal way to be aware of any updates within the industry and to refresh delegates skills and knowledge.

How FRA mentoring works

Feedback could be provided on FRA’s already completed.

Queries or questions arisen since training or about your FRA’s could be answered.

  • One of our specialist consultants could visit your premises and accompany you whilst carrying out a fire risk assessment (or part thereof), if required.

  • Who is eligible

Fire risk assessor mentoring is available to those that have received the relevant training through completion of one of the following Vulcan courses:

Our courses

We are proud to offer a comprehensive course portfolio which can be found here. However, as mentioned, to undertake our FRA mentoring initiative, delegates will need to have completed one of our eligible training courses. With this in mind, let’s take a closer look at what each of these courses cover:

Fire Risk Assessor (5 day)
This 5-day course forms the first part of the in-depth Fire Manager Course (9 day) and teaches delegates how to produce fire safety reports, fire emergency plans and fire risk assessments in line with current legislation. Upon successful completion, the Fire Risk Assessor course gives delegates the opportunity to apply for Technician Grade with the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM).

Conversion to Fire Manager (5 day)
Aimed towards individuals that have already received their NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Assessment (2014) certificate, this highly practical course is designed to further enhance delegates knowledge and skills. Delegates that successfully complete this course will feel confident to produce relevant fire safety documentation in line with current legislation, advise on fire-fighting access requirements and advise on improvements to control measures in reducing the risk of fire.

Fire Manager Course (9 day)
This comprehensive, 9-day course combines the Fire Risk Assessor Course (5 day) and the Managing Fire Safety Course (5 day) to provide an in-depth, fully encompassing training course of all aspects of fire safety. Designed specifically for individuals employed in a wide range of commercial and industrial backgrounds within both the public and private sector, this prestigious course consists of two modules with a mixture of multimedia presentations, practical exercises and working on plan drawings. Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will feel empowered to competently undertake fire risk assessments and produce fire safety reports and fire emergency plans.

Delegates that successfully complete both parts of the course will be eligible to apply for Associate level qualification with the IFSM or a Technician qualification with the IFE (subject to validation criteria).
