Fire Warden and Fire Extinguisher & Awareness training - why being up to date matters

15th April 2024

If you’ve ever attended one of our fire safety training courses, or even one with another training company, it does not necessarily mean you’re fully up to speed with the latest advice and best practice.

If you’re a Fire Warden, or you need to know how to operate a Fire Extinguisher safely and effectively, here is why you need a refresher.

People move on, course modules change and the technology around equipment also changes too. All these things together mean that, even if you have invested in one of our accredited Fire Warden or Fire Extinguisher & Awareness training courses, it is important that your knowledge and understanding is refreshed.

First of all, it is worth reminding ourselves that fire safety training exists because companies and employers have a legal obligation to ensure that key staff are trained and prepared for all types of fire emergencies. The bottom line is that fire safety training saves lives.

Our Fire Warden and Fire Extinguisher & Awareness training courses remain as popular as ever because they are critical for every type of workplace setting. And with a wide range of dates available, it is easy to get your nominated fire safety staff booked on to a course. Please note, all these courses are held at your place of work/facility.

Fire Warden training

With our Fire Warden training courses, we have recognized that there are numerous different settings, each with their unique circumstances and challenges. This is why, in addition to our generic course, we have designed six separate courses for each of the following market sectors:

  • Care Homes
  • Construction
  • Hotels
  • Schools
  • Healthcare

With each of these courses, delegates are taken through a mix of multimedia presentations and hands-on practical workshops to ensure they understand their responsibilities and gain a detailed knowledge of both effective fire prevention practices, and ongoing fire safety management.

Approved by the Institute of Fire Safety Managers, this course is limited to 15 delegates to ensure effective learning and training support.

Tailoring each course to specific industry sectors enables delegates to gain more detailed fire safety training insights relevant to their setting.

For instance, with the Fire Warden - Care Homes training course we explore issues such as the dependency levels of patients, and the fire evacuation needs of disabled residents. Meanwhile, on our Fire Warden - Construction course delegates get to learn how to assess the right fire extinguisher for the scale of fire you might encounter.

With our Fire Warden - Hotels course we explore fire evacuation plans for a wide range of larger hospitality venues, and demonstrate how quickly fire can spread through public spaces.

If you’re in education, our Fire Warden - Schools training course is aimed at teachers, lecturers, teaching assistants and facilities managers, and ensures that all delegates understand evacuation plans and how to use the right fire extinguisher effectively.

If you’re in healthcare, then our Fire Warden - Healthcare course will equip you with a knowledge of the legal fire requirements for healthcare establishments, and help you understand the fire evacuation needs of different patients, and their levels of dependency in an emergency.

With each of the above courses, delegates come away with all the up-to-date best practice and theoretical knowledge to enable them to cope with confidence in a fire emergency.

“This course was an eye opener for both professional and personal fire safety. The videos reinforced visually the points the trainer was making. It was educational, enjoyable and the trainer presented it well.” Tracey O’Neil, Unit Manager.

Fire Extinguisher and Awareness training - 90 minutes of learning that can save lives

One of our shorter courses, but always in high demand, fire extinguisher and awareness training is a highly effective course that gives delegates the confidence to use fire extinguishers quickly and effectively.

We see these pieces of equipment in all types of places - and not just where we work. But knowing how to work one to maximum effect comes from having both theoretical and hands-on practical knowledge.

When a fire occurs, every second counts - and this simple but critical course will give you up to the minute advice on how to deploy a fire extinguisher with confidence before (if needed) additional help comes from the fire service.

In this 90-minute course, you will receive 1 hour of theory before you get hands-on practical experience. This is usually held outside in a car park, or somewhere close to your place of work.

“Good to get hands-on. I feel more confident now.” Neil Ash, Project Manager.
