Introduction

The ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment is an officially recognised qualification on the Register of Regulated Qualifications which contains the qualifications and awarding organisations regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation.

About the qualification

The purpose of this qualification is to confirm occupational competence. Delegates must demonstrate that they are capable of carrying out fire risk assessments and have the under-pinning knowledge needed, at the required depth.

Vulcan Fire Training now offer a CIFRA incorporating our 5-day Fire Risk Assessor course or Fire Manager course.

THE ONLY VFT COURSE DATES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS QUALIFICATION ARE THE 5-DAY FIRE RISK ASSESSOR OR 9-DAY FIRE MANAGER COURSE. 

The Level 3 Certificate consists of 4 Units and a final closed-book examination:

• Unit 1: Work in a safe and professional manner.
  Delegates must provide a portfolio of evidence to prove Guided Learning Hours (eg CPD) together with written assessments to demonstrate competency.
• Unit 2: Fundamental principles and concepts for fire risk assessment.
  Delegates must provide a portfolio of evidence to prove Guided Learning Hours (eg CPD) together with written assessments to demonstrate competency.
• Unit 3: Prepare to undertake fire risk assessments.
  Delegates must provide a portfolio of evidence to prove Guided Learning Hours (eg CPD) together with written assessments to demonstrate competency.
• Unit 4: Undertake and report on fire risk assessments.
  Delegates submit 3 recent fire risk assessment reports (not theoretical) as a portfolio of evidence.
• Final examination – The final examination is a closed-book 30-question multiple choice paper which delegates sit AFTER successfully passing Units 1 to 4.

Note: Units 3 and 4 can only be submitted after Units 1 and 2 have been completed and the final exam can only be arranged after all 4 Units have been passed.
Vulcan Fire Training has developed guidance to give clarity on what is required for each of the 4 Units and the documentation is supplied to delegates as part of the course materials.

What routes are available for undertaking the ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment? 

Route 1 - L3 CIFRA

New delegates can book the Vulcan Fire Training FRA 5-day course and ABBE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Risk Assessment together.
Note: As explained above, Units 1 and 2 should be completed before Units 3 and 4 can be carried out and submitted.

Route 2 - L3 CIFRA

Delegates who have previously passed the Vulcan Fire Training FRA 5-day course can book the L3 CIFRA 4 Units and examination element.
Note 1: The Vulcan Fire Training FRA 5-day course counts as 35 hours towards the learning guided hours required for Unit 2.
Note 2: Delegates who have passed the Vulcan Fire Training Fire Manager 9-day course (FRA 5-day and MFS 4-day) will have covered the guided learning hours required for Unit 2.

Route 3 - L3 CIFRA

Delegates who have passed accredited fire risk assessment courses other than the Vulcan Fire Training course BEFORE MAY 2024, can apply to take the 4 Units and final examination.
Please contact us before booking, so we can advise if your previous training meets the required criteria. Not all non-Vulcan Fire Training FRA courses are acceptable.

Delegates who have passed appropriate accredited fire risk assessment courses other than the Vulcan Fire Training course BEFORE MAY 2024.
CIFRA: £800

Guided Learning (GL) for this qualification is: 130 hours
The Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this qualification is: 300 hours
